BSEC gets new commissioner
New BSEC commissioner Md Abdul Halim

The government has appointed retired bureaucrat Md Abdul Halim as a commissioner of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the regulator of the capital market.

A finance ministry circular, signed by Deputy Secretary Nahid Hossain, was issued on Tuesday confirming Abdul Halim’s appointment as one of the four commissioners of BSEC.

It has been said in the circular that, to comply with the provisions of Sections 5 and 6 of the Securities and Exchange Commission Act 1993, Md Abdul Halim was appointed as a commissioner of BSEC for a 4-year term.

It may be mentioned that Abdul Halim retired from the post of secretary of the industry ministry on May 27.

The commission got a full five-member body through the appointment. Earlier, Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam joined the BSEC on May 17 as its chairman. Later, Professor Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Professor Mizanur Rahman joined BSEC on May 20 as commissioners with the incumbent commissioner Khondoker Kamaluzzaman.
