Stocks stumble for second day

Both Dhaka and Chattogram stock markets continued to tumble down for the second day on Tuesday (June 2). All the indices of both the stock markets declined on this day. At the same time, the amount of money transactions has decreased.

However, the share and unit prices of most of the companies, participating in the trade, remained unchanged. Like the previous day (Monday), Grameen Phone and Square Pharma — the two largest companies listed on the stock exchanges —  have played a major role in the fall.

Today, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) DSEX fell 30 points to 3,969 points. Among other DSE indices, the Shariah index fell by 10 points, the DSE-30 index by 17 points and the CDSET by 8 points to 920 points, 1330 points and 786 points respectively.

Shares and units of Tk 155.24 crore were traded on the DSE today. The amount is Tk 42 crore 52 lakh less than the previous day when shares and units worth of Tk 197 crore 76 lakh were transacted.

Shares and units of 294 companies were traded on the DSE today. Among these companies, the prices of 12 companies increased, 53 companies lost value while 229 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, all the indices of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) have declined. The key index of CSE, CASPI fell 80 points to 11,261 points. Today, 128 companies have participated in the trading at CSE. Of these, 10 have increased, 30 have decreased and 88 have remained unchanged. Shares and units merely of Tk 56 crore 65 lakh were traded at the CSE.
