BB instructs banks to ensure CSR spending in health sector

The Bangladesh Bank has directed all commercial banks to ensure 60 percent of their expenditures under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in the health sector.

A circular in this regard was issued by the Sustainable Finance Department of Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday (June 17).

The circular said, it has become vital to take various steps in the health sector to address the crisis in the country's public health sector caused by the global epidemic coronavirus.

The circular further said as per the existing guidelines, 60 percent allocation of CSR should be spent on health, 30 percent on education and 10 percent on climate risk funds by banks. Considering the importance of the fund in the current context it has been prescribed to utilise the fund effectively to serve the corona-hit health sector better.
