Financial assistance for tanners, traders ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has said the government will ensure necessary financial benefits for traders involved in leather industry during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Besides, the price of raw hides and salted hides will be fixed considering the coronavirus situation so that traders are able to purchase and store a sufficient quantity of hides.

He said this while presiding over a virtual meeting of a task force set up for the development of leather industry on Monday.

The minister said that all the tannery owners, warehouse keepers, owners of various cottages industries, small and medium scale industries related to the leather sector should work together so that the sector can make a turnaround in the post-coronavirus situation.

He said the government was working to ensure the proper management of leather during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha in the light of the experience of the past year and the cooperation of workers involved in the leather industry. To this end, he called upon the concerned stakeholders to work on the basis of mutual cooperation.

Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to the prime minister at the meeting said that the withdrawal of RAJUK's' red zone' from tannery owners' land in Hazaribag will help the owners get loans.
