New FY begins with fall in stock markets

Trading at the stock exchanges of both Dhaka and Chattogram ended lower on the first working day of the new fiscal year. All stock market indices declined on Thursday (July 2). The amount of money transacted decreased as well.

However, the share and unit prices of most of the companies participating in the transactions remained unchanged, said sources in the bourses.

On Thursday, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) DSEX fell by 2 points, standing at 3,986 points. Among other DSE indices, the Shariah Index fell by 3 points, the DSE-30 Index by 1 point and the CDSET by 1 point, settling at 922 points, 1,339 points and 791 points respectively.

Shares and units of Tk 81.18 crore were traded on the DSE on Thursday – down by Tk 474.52 crore from Tk 555.71 crore just one working day ago. Of the 273 issues traded, 24 gained, 36 fell while 213 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI fell by 11 points to 11,321 points on Thursday. Shares and units worth of Tk 2.32 crore were traded at the CSE.

Among the 124 issues traded during the day, 18 gained, 27 declined and 79 remained unchanged.
