Weekly stock market review: Indices climb, transactions fall

Major indices on both stock markets increased over the week. However, the amount of money transacted decreased from the previous week.

The main index of DSE, DSEX rose by 74.83 points or 1.88 percent to 4,061.57 points. Among other indices, Shariah Index rose 16.85 points or 1.83 percent, and the DSE-30 Index rose 29.87 points or 2.23 percent to 938.96 points and 1,369.37 points respectively.

In the outgoing week, a total of 358 companies participated in share and unit transactions on DSE. Among the companies, share prices increased by 142 or 39.66 percent, decreased by 22 or 6.14 percent and remained unchanged at 194 or 54.19 percent.

Tk 940,56,37,342 was traded on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in 5 working days of the outgoing week. It was Tk 2,394,25,34,900 or 71.80 percent less than the previous week. In the previous week, the transaction was Tk 3,334,81,72,242.

The average turnover in the outgoing week on the DSE was Tk 188,11,27,468. In the previous week, the average transaction was 833,70,43,060 taka. In other words, the average transaction on the DSE during the week decreased by Tk 645,59,15,592.

On Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) in the outgoing week, the amount of money transacted was Tk 201,61,19,048. And in the previous week the transaction was Tk 558,89,97,306. In other words, the turnover on the CSE during the week has decreased by Tk 357,28,78,258 or 63.92 percent.

During the week, the overall CSE index CASPI rose 215.82 points or 1.90 percent to 11,536.94 points. Shares and units of 244 companies traded on the CSE during the week. Among the companies, 83 or 34.01 percent increased, 20 or 8.19 percent declined and 141 or 57.78 percent remained unchanged.
