Banks in industrial areas to remain open Saturday

Scheduled bank branches in the industrial areas have been directed to continue operation next Saturday (July 25) ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to facilitate the payment of salaries, bonuses and other allowances to workers and employees of the readymade garment industry.

The areas are: Dhaka metropolis, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong.

The department of off-site supervision of Bangladesh Bank issued a circular in this regard on Wednesday (July 22) and sent it to the chief executives of all the scheduled banks.

The circular directed these branches of the scheduled banks located in the industrial areas to take appropriate steps to keep the full day open on July 25, 2020.

On that day, the clearing system of Bangladesh Bank will remain open. However, in the interest of smooth operation of the clearing system, cheques cannot be issued at any bank branches located outside the abovementioned areas and such cheques will be duly rejected.
