Gold prices highest in country's history

The price of gold in Bangladesh has reached a record high with an increase of Tk4,432 to reach Tk77,215 per bhori.

New prices will be effective from Thursday (August 6), according to the website of Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (Bajus).

As per the website, 22-carat gold will cost Tk77,215, Which was Tk72,783 in the past, a Tk4,432 hike per bhori according to the new price.

Similarly, the price of 21-carat gold has been increased to Tk74,066 and 18-carat gold to Tk65,318, which were Tk69,634 and Tk60,886 respectively till Wednesday.

According to a press release on Wednesday, BAJUS said the price of gold is currently the highest in history in the global market due to the economic crisis because of the coronavirus pandemic, the ongoing US-China trade war and the recent US dollar decline. As a result, the price of gold has increased in the country’s bullion market.

Gold traders also claim to be in a loss as sales in the local market see continuous decline given the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the price of silver will remain unchanged at Tk933 per gram.

Previously on July 23, the Bajus raised the price of gold by Tk2,915.
