Week ends with a leap

All the indices in both the stock exchanges in the country witnessed a big jump on Thursday, the last working day of the week, sustaining the gaining streak for the tenth consecutive session.

On Thursday (August 6), the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE)'s transaction exceeded Tk800 crore, over Tk100 crore-worth more than the previous session. On Wednesday, the turnover here crossed Tk700 crore after a long month.

The key index on the DSE, DSEX, went up by 58 points on Thursday to stand at 4,365 points. Among other DSE indices, the Shariah Index (DSES) rose 14 points to settle at 1011 points and the DSE-30 Index, comprising blue chips, soared 23 points to close at 1,476.

Shares and units of Tk 836.53 crore were traded on the DSE on Thursday – up by Tk 118.19 crore from Tk 718.34 crore of the previous working day.

Of the 353 issues traded, 219 gained, 79 fell while 55 remained unchanged.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals topped the turnover chart, followed by Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company, Pioneer Insurance, Beximco and VFS Thread Dyeing.

Pragati Life Insurance was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while Agrani Insurance was the worst loser, losing 3.33 per cent.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI up by 176 points to 12,406 points on Thursday.

Shares and units worth of Tk 49.01 crore were traded at the CSE.

Among the 265 issues traded during the day, 159 gained, 50 declined and 56 remained unchanged.
