Bangladesh’s share in global apparel exports increased by 0.4 percentage point to 6.8 per cent in 2019 after a slight fall in the previous year according to the latest statistics of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The opportunity presented by the US-China trade war and the fall in global market boosted Bangladesh's market share, according to experts.

Economists also think China shifting helped Bangladesh to gain more in the export market. The country currently holds a 7 per cent share in the global apparel market and continues to grow.

However, import of textiles from the global market by Bangladesh declined by around 6.80 per cent in the last year.

It showed that Bangladesh imported textiles worth USD 9.91 billion in 2019 which was around USD 11.0 billion in 2018.

World Trade Statistical Review 2020, released by the WTO in the last week in Geneva, unveiled these figures.

The annual statistical review of the WTO looks into the latest developments in world trade and provides a detailed analysis of the most recent trends for trade in goods and services.
