Stock markets end week with big upswing in transactions

The stock markets ended the week with a big upswing in transactions. All stock market indices rose during the week.

Transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased by 55 per cent and on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) by 61 per cent. As a result, investors got back their market capitalisation of 41,953.43 crore taka during the week.

On the last working day of the outgoing week, the market capitalisation of the DSE stood at 3,55,087.65 crore taka, which was 3,33,685.94 crore taka on the last working day of the previous week.

In other words, the market capitalisation of the DSE has increased by 21,401.71 crore taka or 6.41 per cent during the week.

On the other hand, the market capitalisation of the CSE increased by 20,551.72 crore taka or 7.76 per cent to 2,85,275.11 crore taka during the week. In the previous week, the market capitalisation of the CSE was 2,64,723.39 crore taka.

In the four working days of the outgoing week, 4,504.79 crore 79 lakh 30 thousand 751 taka was transacted on the DSE, which was 1,600 crore 98 lakh 96 thousand 500 taka or 55.13 per cent more than the previous week's transaction (2,903 crore 90 lakh 34 thousand 251 taka).

The average turnover in the outgoing week at the DSE was 1,126 crore 22 lakh 32 thousand 688 taka. The amount in the previous week was 725 crore 97 lakh 58 thousand 563 taka.

In other words, the average transaction at the DSE during the week has increased by 400 crore 24 lakh 74 thousand 126 taka.

During the week, the DSE's main index, the DSEX rose 338.49 points, or 7.75 per cent, to 4,703.32 points.

Among other indices, the Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 77.36 points or 7.65 per cent and the DSE-30 Index by 118.43 points or 8.02 per cent to 1088.46 points and 1594.30 points respectively.

A total of 359 companies' shares and units were traded at the DSE during the outgoing week. Among those, 282 or 78.55 per cent saw gain and 59 or 16.43 per cent saw fall in prices and prices of 18 or 5.01 per cent remained unchanged.

On the CSE in the outgoing week, the amount of money transacted was 156 crore 81 lakh 62 thousand 671 taka which was 97 crore 27 lakh 1 thousand 218 taka in the week before.

In other words, the turnover at the CSE has increased by 59 crore 54 lakh 69 thousand 453 taka or 61.21 per cent during the week.

During the week, the overall CSE index CASPI rose 963.22 points or 7.73 per cent to 13,361.10 points. Shares and units of 314 companies traded on the CSE during the week. Of the companies, 226 or 71.97 per cent rose, 56 or 17.83 per cent declined and 32 or 10.19 per cent remained unchanged.
