Bourses witness big slump after 3-day gaining streak

After maintaining an upward trend for three consecutive sessions, indices of both the stock markets in Dhaka and Chattogram ended in a big fall on Monday (August 17).

However, the turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) exceeded 14 billion taka.

On Monday, the key index of the DSE, DSEX fell 74 points to close at 4,785 points. Among other indices of the DSE, Shariah Index (DSES) decreased by 13 points to settle at 1,096 and DSE-30 Index, comprising blue chips, dropped by 22 points to finish at 1,618 points.

Shares and units of 1,408.25 crore taka were traded at the DSE on Monday – 56.92 crore taka up from 1,351.33 crore taka of the previous working day. Of the 356 issues traded, 118 gained, 228 fell while 10 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI went down by 184 points to 13,672 points on Monday. Shares and units worth 31.72 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 290 issues traded during the day, 96 gained, 174 declined and 20 remained unchanged.
