Week ends on high note for markets

The stock markets ended the outgoing week with an uptrend like the previous one. All stock market indices rose during the week.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) turnover increased by 31 per cent and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) by 8 per cent. As a result, investors received a market capitalisation of 10,319.55 crore taka during the week.

On the last working day of the outgoing week, the market capitalisation of the DSE stood at 3,59,789.74 crore taka, which was 3,55,087.65 crore taka the previous week.

In other words, the market capitalisation of the DSE increased by 4,702 crore 9 lakh 59 thousand taka or 1.32 per cent during the week.

The DSE witnessed a turnover of 5,898 crore 94 thousand taka in the five working days of the outgoing week. The amount was 1,393 crore 11 lakh 63 thousand 295 taka or 30.92 per cent more than the previous week's transaction which was 4,504 crore 89 lakh 30 thousand 751 taka.

The DSE's main index, DSEX, rose by 90.75 points, or 1.93 per cent, to 4,794.07 points during the week.

Among other indices, the Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 11.88 points or 1.09 per cent and the DSE-30 Index increased by 52.76 points or 3.31 per cent to close at 1,100.34 points and 1,647.07 points, respectively.

A total of 359 companies' shares and units were traded at the DSE during the outgoing week. Among those, prices increased for 182 or 50.69 per cent, declined for 162 or 45.12 per cent and remained unchanged for 15 or 4.17 per cent companies.

At the CSE in the outgoing week, the turnover was 169 crore 58 lakh 44 thousand 478 taka. The previous week's transaction was 156 crore 81 lakh 62 thousand 671 taka.

In other words, the turnover at the CSE during the week has increased by 12 crore 76 lakh 81 thousand 807 taka or 8.14 per cent.

During the week, the overall CSE Index CASPI rose by 335.54 points, or 2.51 per cent to settle at 13,693.64 points.

Shares and units of 317 companies were traded at the CSE during the week. Of the companies, 174 or 54.88 per cent gained, 118 or 37.22 per cent fell and 25 or 7.88 per cent remained unchanged.

During the week, the market capitalisation of the CSE increased by 5,617 crore 45 lakh 40 thousand taka or 1.97 per cent to 2 lakh 90 thousand 892 crore 56 lakh 80 thousand taka. In the previous week, the amount was 2 lakh 85 thousand 275 crore 11 lakh 40 thousand taka.
