Stocks finish week in high

Following the previous session's marginal gain, both the stock exchanges in Dhaka and Chattogram witnessed an upward trend on Thursday (September 3), the last working day of the week.

All the indices of both the stock markets rose today. Share and unit prices of most of the companies participating in the transaction have also increased.

However, the amount of money transacted decreased slightly from the previous working day.

On Thursday, the key index of the Dhaka stock exchange (DSE) DSEX went up by 36 points to finish at 4,928 points. Among the other indices of the DSE, the Shariah index (DSES) increased by 4 points and the DSE-30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 1 point settling at 1,142 and 1,715 points respectively.

Shares and units of 1,093.88 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Thursday – 107.47 crore taka less than that of the previous session.

Gainers took lead over losers on Thursday as of the 355 issues traded, 221 gained, 109 fell while 25 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE increased to Taka 3,725 billion which was Taka 3,706 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were AB Bank, CVO Petrochemical, Prime Insurance, CAPM IBBL MF, Fine Foods, Samorita Hospital, United Finance, Apolo Ishpat, Summit Alliance Port and SEML LEC MF.

Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by Beximco Limited, Orion Pharma, Brac Bank, Lankabangla Finance, Eastern Insurance, Express Insurance, Baraka Power, Square Pharma and Grameenphone.

The top ten losers were Express Insurance, Miracle Industries, Asia Insurance, United Insurance, Sonargaon Textile, ICB Islami Bank, Takaful Islami Insurance, Beach Hatchery, Meghna Petroleum and RN Spinning.

On the other hand, the key index of the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI rose by 93 points to close at 14,067 points on Thursday. Shares and units worth of 32.55 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 275 issues traded during the day, 171 gained, 67 declined and 37 remained unchanged.
