Bourses close flat after 5-day gaining streak

Both the stock market in Dhaka and Chattogram witnessed a marginal fall on Wednesday (September 9) after rising for five consecutive sessions. All the indices of both stock exchanges declined on this day.

The amount of money transacted also decreased on Wednesday. However, the share and unit prices of most companies have increased.

On Wednesday, the key index of the Dhaka stock exchange (DSE) DSEX fell by 7 points to close at 4,972 points. Among other indices of the DSE, the Shariah index (DSES) decreased by 4 points and the DSE-30 index, comprising blue chips, went down by 7 points, finishing at 1,146 and 1,727 points respectively.

Shares and units of 1,077.97 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Wednesday, 112.18 crore taka less than 1,190.15 crore taka of the previous working day.

Gainers took lead over losers on Wednesday as of the 355 issues traded, 165 gained, 147 fell while 43 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI fell by 25 points to settle at 14,195 points on Wednesday. Shares and units worth of 28.82 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 286 issues traded during the day, 119 gained, 132 declined and 35 remained unchanged.
