DSEX crosses 5,000-mark in over 11 months

Both the stock exchanges of the country ended with marginal gains on Thursday, the last working day of the week, with the main index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) DSEX crossing 5,000-mark after a long eleven and a half months as investors kept running their buying appetite riding on different regulatory moves.

Shares and unit prices of most of the companies trading on the index increased today. However, the amount of money transacted decreased slightly from that of the previous session.

On Thursday, the prime index of the DSE, DSEX advanced by 39.60 points and settled at 5011.29 points, which is the highest level of the index after a long 11 months and 16 days or 195 working days. The last the DSEX crossed 5,000-mark was on September 23, 2019.

Meanwhile, among other indices of the DSE, the Shariah index (DSES) increased by 12 points and the DSE-30 index, comprising blue chips, went up by 12 points to finish at 1,159 and 1,740 points respectively.

Shares and units of 1,024.54 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Thursday, 53.43 crore taka less than 1,077.97 crore taka of the previous session.

Gainers took lead over losers today as out of the 356 issues traded, 190 gained, 117 fell while 49 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE increased to Taka 3,789 billion which was Taka 3,763 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were Hakkani Pulp, Orion Infusion, Information Services Network, Provati Insurance, Beacon Pharma, ADN Telecom, National Polymer, BD Finance, Agrani Insurance and Miracle Industries.

Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by Beximco Limited, Brac Bank, Orion Pharma, Orion Infusion, Delta Brac Housing, Fu-Wang Food, Grameenphone, United Power and Square Pharma.

The top ten losers were Pragati Life Insurance, LR Global Mutual Fund-1, Prime Insurance, United Insurance, NLI First Mutual Fund, Republic Insurance, Asia Insurance, Paramount Insurance, Global Insurance and Daffodil Insurance.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rebounded and closed trading at green after a days break.

CSCX and CASPI rose by 53.39points and 100.24 points to stand at 8602.59 points and 14,295.09 points respectively. Shares and units worth of 29.22 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 273 issues traded during the day, 154 gained, 79 declined and 40 remained unchanged.
