The traders of hilsa fish have got special permission to export it to India, although the export of this fish has been banned since 2012.

According to a report of The Economics time, nearly 1,450 tonnes of hilsa fish is all set to enter India from Bangladesh next week.

Syed Anwar Maqsood, secretary of fish importers' association confirmed the news. He said. “Nearly 200 exporters sought permission to expert the fish. The government has given special permission to only nine exporters to export 1,450 tonnes of hilsa fish next week.”

"It will be exported to Kolkata by next week through the Benapole-Petrapole border," he added.

The weight of Bangladeshi hilsa that will be going to India will vary between 800 and 1,200 grams.

Bangladesh initially banned the export of Hilsha in 2012 to meet the demand of the local market. But the ban was lifted for a temporary period from September 28 to October and had sent 500 tonnes of hilsa fish as a Durga Puja gift. However, after October 10 exports to India completely stopped again.
