Bourses bring joy to investors

Both the stock markets of the country ended with big jumps on Sunday, the first working day of the week. The amount of money transacted and the share and unit prices of most of the companies participating also increased at the same time.

The transaction at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) exceeded 13 hundred crore taka on Sunday and market capitalisation of 8 thousand 71 crore 16 lakh 73 thousand taka returned to the stock markets.

On Sunday, the main index of the DSE, DSEX, increased by 83 points, settling at 5,094 points. Among other indices of the DSE, the Shariah index (DSES) advanced 12 points and the DSE-30 index, comprising blue chips, rose by 17 points to close at 1,171 and 1,757 points respectively.

Shares and units of 1,329.72 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Sunday, 305.18 crore taka more than 1,024.54 crore taka of the previous session.

Gainers took a big lead over losers today as out of the 357 issues traded, 226 gained, 106 fell while 25 remained unchanged.

At the end of today's transaction, the market capitalisation of the DSE stood at 3 lakh 84 thousand 654 crore 93 lakh 89 thousand taka. Before the start of the transaction, the market capitalisation was 3 lakh 78 thousand 941 crore 97 lakh 6 thousand taka. In other words, the market capitalisation on the DSE today increased by 5 thousand 712 crore 96 lakh 83 thousand taka or 1.50 per cent.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), CASPI went up by 239 points to finish at 14,535 points on Sunday. Shares and units worth of 47.98 crore taka were traded at the CSE.   

At the end of today's transaction, the market capitalisation of the CSE stood at 3 lakh 9 thousand 13 crore 51 lakh 50 thousand taka. Before the beginning of the transaction, the market capitalisation was 3 lakh 6 thousand 655 crore 31 lakh 60 thousand taka. In other words, the market capitalisation of the CSE on Sunday increased by 2 thousand 358 crore 19 lakh 90 thousand taka or 0.76 per cent.

Among the 287 issues traded during the day, 177 gained, 85 declined and 25 remained unchanged.
