Dhaka Stock Exchange website added to its users’ woes since the launch of the updated version of its software due to inability of the Information Technology (IT) department of the DSE and the weakness of web developers.

The weakness of website has been unearthed in the investigation of the probe body of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

However, there was no intentional error or fraud on the part of DSE.

The probe body, headed by Dhaka University Professor and Chairman of the CSE Department Md. Mustafizur Rahman, submitted its 100-page investigation report to the BSEC on Monday (September 14th).

The investigation report said no intentional errors or irregularities were found in the transaction problems with the launch of the new software. The transaction suffered due to the weakness of the website and inept staffers of the IT department of DSE who failed to shoot the problems. The IT department of DSE does what others explain. However, they did not commit any fraud. This was due to lack of knowledge, experience and education, the report chided.

A senior BSEC official said the probe committee had found many problems with IT department of the DSE. In light of this, they have made several recommendations. This highlights a major weakness in DSE’s IT department which is stuffed with uncouth people. The committee has made several recommendations to address these problems.

He said that various problems have been found including the incompetent manpower of IT department. Now we have to fix those problems. The DSE board will be convened next week to discuss the problems and find out a quick-fix solution.

It may be noted that Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Yunusur Rahman inaugurated the updated version of the website on August 18. After the inauguration, investors suffered on August 19 and 20. DSE regretted for the digital dismal in a press release on 23 August. However, the website is now working normally.
