Stocks continue downbeat, DSEX below 5,000 again

Both the bourses of the country, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), continued downbeat on Tuesday maintaining the trend of previous three sessions’ correction as risk-averse investors rushed to book quick profit on sector-wise issues.

As a result, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, dropped below 5,000 points again.

All the other indices of both the stock exchanges also declined on this day. At the same time, the amount of money transacted and the share and unit prices of most companies decreased.

On Tuesday, DSEX declined by 42 points, standing at 4,970 points. Among other indices of the DSE, the Shariah index (DSES) decreased by 11 points and the DSE-30 index slumped by 13 points to finish at 1,127 and 1,714 points respectively.

Shares and units of 729.92 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Tuesday, 247.66 crore taka less than 977.58 crore taka of the previous working day.

Losers took a big lead over gainers as out of the 356 issues traded, 75 gained, 252 fell while 29 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE decreased to Taka 3,769 billion which was Taka 3,795 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were Nitol Insurance, Global Insurance, Paramount Insurance, Salvo Chemical, Federal Insurance, First Bangladesh Fixed Income Fund, Fine Foods, Continental Insurance, Provati Insurance and BD Thai Aluminium.

Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by Brac Bank, Square Pharma, Beximco Limited, Rupali Life Insurance, Singer BD, Nitol Insurance, First Bangladesh Fixed Income Fund, Purabi General Life Insurance and BD Finance.

The top ten losers were BD Welding, Golden Son, CNA Tex, Familytex, Zahintex, Tallu Spinning, G Q Ball Pen, BIFC, Keya Cosmetic and RN Spinning.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI dropped by 150 points to close at 14,169 points on Tuesday. Shares and units worth of 17.16 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 281 issues traded during the day, 53 gained, 200 declined and 28 remained unchanged.
