Capitalisation returns to Tk 17,000cr despite fall in index

After 13 consecutive weeks of rising, the stock market traded down in the outgoing week (September 20-24). All stock market indices declined in the outgoing week with a decrease in the amount of money traded. Besides, share and unit prices of most of the companies also decreased. Even then, the market capitalisation has returned to Tk 17,000 crore.

It is learned that this week, Tk 17 thousand 214 crore 9 lakh 5 thousand has returned to both the stock exchanges. While in the previous week, the amount was Tk 14 thousand 111 crore 22 lakh 62 thousand. In other words, return of capital to the market increased by 21.98 percent or Tk 3,102 crore 86 lakh 43 thousand during the week.

Before the start of trading in the first working day of the week in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the market capitalisation was TK 3 lakh 85 thousand 632 crore 71 lakh 48 thousand. At the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalisation stood at Tk 3 lakh 94 thousand 651 crore 63 lakh 23 thousand. In other words, market capitalisation in the DSE has returned to Tk 9 thousand 18 crore 91 lakh 75 thousand or 2.33 percent in a week.

Before the onset of trading in the first working day of the week at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the market capitalisation was Tk 3 lakh 16 thousand 433 crore 99 lakh 70 thousand. At the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalisation was Tk 3 lakh 24 thousand 629 crore 17 lakh. Therefore, market capitalisation in the CSE has returned to Tk 8,195.17 crore or 2.58 percent in a week.

It is learned that, Tk 4 thousand 573 crore 72 lakh 70 thousand 393 has been traded in the DSE in 5 working days of the outgoing week which is Tk 1 thousand 61 crore 60 lakh 51 thousand 243 or 18.83 percent less than the previous week. In the previous week, the transaction was 5 thousand 635 crore 33 lakh 21 thousand 636 taka.

DSE's main index, the DSEX, fell by 125.88 points or 2.46 percent to 4,978.77 points during the week. Among other indices, the Shariah Index reduced by 36.76 points or 3.16 percent and the DSE-30 Index fell by 60.41 points or 3.42 percent to 1,126.30 points and 1,701.19 points respectively.

In the outgoing week, a total of 359 companies participated in the share and unit transactions in the DSE. Among the companies, the share price of 125 increased, 224 decreased while 10 remained unchanged.

In CSE the amount of money traded was Tk 131 crore 98 lakh 88 thousand 64 in the outgoing week which was Tk 175 crore 41 lakh 23 thousand 838 in the previous week. In other words, the turnover in the CSE during the week decreased by 43 crore 42 lakh 35 thousand 774 taka or 24.75 percent.

During the week, CSE index CASPI fell by 354.47 points or 2.43 percent to 14,219.23 points. Shares and units of 325 companies were traded in the CSE during the week of which prices of 113 companies increased and 192 companies decreased and 20 remained unchanged.
