Bourses lose points; DSEX below 5,000

Both the stock exchanges of Dhaka and Chattogram took a dip on Tuesday after witnessing rebound in the previous session. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) dropped below 5,000 points on the second day of the week.

Shares and unit prices of most companies declined along with the indices today. The amount of money transacted also decreased.

On Tuesday, DSEX decreased by 21 points, standing at 4,982 points. Among other indices of the DSE, Shariah index (DSES) declined by 6 points and DSE-30 index decreased by 7 points to finish at 1,126 and 1,705 points respectively.

Shares and units of 853 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Tuesday, which is 26.49 crore taka less than 879.49 crore taka in the previous working day.

Losers took lead over gainers on Tuesday as out of the 356 issues traded, 140 gained, 167 fell while 49 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI went down by 37 points to close at 14,262 points on Tuesday. Shares and units worth of 63.49 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 287 issues traded during the day, 112 gained, 136 declined and 39 remained unchanged.
