Indices fall, transactions increase

Stocks witnessed a downward trend on Wednesday (September 30) following the previous session's modest correction. Shares and unit prices of most companies also declined on the day.

However, the amount of money transacted increased from that of the previous working day.

Ont Wednesday, the main index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), DSEX decreased by 19 points, standing at 4,963 points. Among other indices of the DSE, Shariah index (DSES) declined by 5 points and the blue-chip index DSE-30 dropped by 9 points to close at 1,120 and 1,696 points respectively.

Shares and units of 914.37 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Wednesday, which is 61.37 crore taka more than 853 crore taka in the previous working day.

Losers took lead over gainers as of the 355 issues traded on Wednesday, 132 gained, 191 fell while 32 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the key index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CASPI went 104 points down to 14,157 points on Wednesday. Shares and units worth of 60.07 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 281 issues traded during the day, 82 gained, 174 declined and 25 remained unchanged.
