Transactions increase, indices fall

After a modest rise on the previous session, trading on both the stock exchanges of the country took a dip on Monday. All the indices of both the stock markets decreased on this day. At the same time, the share and unit prices of most companies have declined.

However, the total transaction amount increased compared to that of Sunday.

On Monday, the main index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), DSEX decreased by 51 points, standing at 4,947 points. Among other indices of the DSE, Shariah index (DSES) declined by 10 points and DSE-30 index dropped by 22 points to close at 1,113 and 1,685 points respectively.

Shares and units of 965.35 crore taka were traded on the DSE on Monday, which is 75.98 crore taka more than 889.37 crore taka in the previous working day.

Losers took a big lead over gainers as out of the 357 issues traded on Monday, 65 gained, 263 fell while 29 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the key index of the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), CASPI, slumped by 146 points to finish at 14,140 points on Monday. Shares and units worth of 36.48 crore taka were traded at the CSE.

Among the 280 issues traded during the day, 62 gained, 190 declined and 28 remained unchanged.
