Siddiqur Rahman new shareholder-director of DSE

Md Siddiqur Rahman, chairman of Sterling Stocks and Securities Ltd, has been made the new shareholder-director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country's main stock market.

He will be replacing Minhaj Mannan Emon, who was recently removed from the 13-member DSE board.

Siddiqur Rahman was nominated as the shareholder-director of the board of directors of the DSE on Thursday (October 8) in accordance with 91 (1) (c) of the Companies Act 1994 and Article 163 of the DSE Articles of Association as the post fell vacant.

He is currently the vice president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and chairman of the Sterling Group. He is a former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Minhaj Mannan Emon has been in jail for about four months due to legal complications and thus, as a member of the board, he could not fulfil the obligation to take leave in case of absence for more than three consecutive months. Which is why his post was declared vacant by the DSE board in September.

Minhaj Mannan Emon's term as director was till next December. Siddiqur Rahman, who has come to that post, will perform interim duties until then.
