Tk 8,000cr market capital lost in last week

Despite rise in the previous week, the stock markets witnessed a downward trend in the outgoing week. All stock market indices declined during the week. At the same time, share and unit prices of most of the companies have decreased.

During the week, transactions in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased slightly and transactions in the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) declined. The stock market lost Taka 8,000 crore in the week.

It is learned that during the week both the stock exchanges incurred losses worth Taka 8 thousand 128 crore 46 lakh 26 thousand. Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week in the DSE, the market capitalization was Taka 4 lakh 3 thousand 395 crore 52 lakh 88 thousand. At the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalization stood at Taka 3 lakh 99 thousand 674 crore 5 lakh 62 thousand. In other words, the market capitalization in the DSE reduced by Taka 3 thousand 721 crore 47 lakh 26 thousand or 0.92 percent.

Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week at the CSE, the market capitalization was Taka 3 lakh 34 thousand 410 crore 34 lakh 60 thousand. And at the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalization stood at Taka 3 lakh 30 thousand 3 crore 35 lakh 60 thousand. In other words, reduction in the market capitalization in the CSE was Taka 4,406.99 crore or 1.37 percent.

It is learnt that Taka 4,604 crore 96 lakh 90 thousand 529 has been traded in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in five working days of the outgoing week which is Taka 50 crore 18 lakh 9 thousand 104 or 1.10 percent more than the previous week. In the previous week, the transaction was Taka 4 thousand 554 crore 78 lakh 81 thousand 425.

The DSE's main index, the DSEX, decreased by 78.35 points or 1.57 percent to 4,916.97 points during the week. Among other indices, the Shariah Index fell by 17.82 points or 1.58 percent and the DSE-30 Index reduced by 41.34 points or 2.42 percent to 1,108.80 points and 1,669.37 points respectively.

In the outgoing week, a total of 359 companies participated in the share and unit transactions in the DSE of which share prices of 111 increased and 216 decreased while 32 remained unchanged.

In the CSE, amount of money traded in the outgoing week has been Taka 149 crore 5 lakh 32 thousand 1 and in the previous week the transaction was Taka 217 crore 15 lakh 23 thousand 832. In other words, the turnover in the CSE during the week has decreased by Taka 68 crore 9 lakh 91 thousand 831 or 31.36 percent.

During the week, overall CSE index CASPI fell by 258.01 points or 1.80 percent to 14,29.50 points. Shares and units of 316 companies traded in the CSE during the week of which 107 increased, 180 decreased and 29 remained unchanged.
