No compromise over good governance in capital market, says BSEC chairman

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC)chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam has said his commission will not compromise with good governance in the capital market.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a webinar titled 'Broker House Services and Investor Rights' on the occasion of 'World Investor Week' on Sunday (October 11).

BSEC chairman said many people might be dissatisfied with the commission for strictness of the current commission but the commission is committed to do its job. He said that his commission wants a vibrant stock market.

"We believe most people want good governance. We want to give investors investment security. Our responsibility is to keep the rules in place. We do not want to interfere in the market," he said.

"We are working for the betterment of bond market. There is also some criticism. But we are accountable to our conscience and we are trying to do what is best for the market," the BSEC chairman added.
