Like the previous week, the outgoing week (October 11-October 15) ended in a slump. The main indexes of the stock markets declined during the week. At the same time, share and unit prices of most of the companies also decreased. The stock market lost 1,700 crore taka in the week.
It is learned that during the previous week, both the stock exchanges incurred losses worth of 1 thousand 724 crore 30 lakh 79 thousand taka. Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the market capitalization was 3 lakh 99 thousand 674 crore 5 lakh 62 thousand taka. At the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalization stood at 3 lakh 98 thousand 551 crore 97 lakh 53 thousand taka. In other words, the DSE lost market capitalization worth 1 thousand 122 crore 8 lakh 9 thousand taka or 0.28 percent.
Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the market capitalization was 3 lakh 30 thousand 3 crore 35 lakh 60 thousand taka. And at the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalization stood at 3 lakh 29 thousand 401 crore 12 lakh 90 thousand taka. In other words, the market capitalization in the CSE has decreased by 602 crore 22 lakh 70 taka in a week.
It is learned that 2,358 crore 24 lakh 55 thousand 827 taka has been traded at the DSE in 5 working days of the outgoing week which is 1,246 crore 72 lakh 34 thousand 702 taka or 27.07 percent less than the previous week. In the previous week, the transaction was 4 thousand 604 crore 96 lakh 90 thousand 529 taka.
The DSE's main index, the DSEX, fell by 44.67 points or 0.91 percent to 4,872.30 points during the week. Among other indices, the Shariah Index raised by 4.17 points or 0.38 percent and the DSE-30 Index went up by 1.08 points or 0.06 percent to 1,112.97 points and 1,670.45 points respectively.
In the outgoing week, a total of 359 companies participated in the share and unit transactions at the DSE. Among the companies, the share prices of 68 companies increased while 262 companies decreased and that of 29 companies remained unchanged.
In the outgoing week at the CSE, the amount of money transacted was 114 crore 90 lakh 90 thousand 926 taka. In the previous week the transaction was 149 crore 5 lakh 32 thousand 1 taka. In other words, the turnover at the CSE during the week decreased by 34 crore 14 lakh 41 thousand 75 taka or 22.90 percent.
During the week, the overall CSE index CASPI fell by 146.11 points or 1.04 percent to 13,883.39 points. Shares and units of 311 companies were traded at the CSE during the week of which prices of 58 companies increased and 220 companies decreased while that of 33 companies remained unchanged.
