'Call centers set example employing people without basic computer skills'

Call centers of the country have become a promising industry by creating employment for youths with no specialized education.

Also, the Bangladesh Association of Call Centers and Outsourcing (Bacco) has set a great example by employing those who did not even have basic computer skills.

And the call center industry is not only for people who know good English, there is a lot of demand for people who are skilled in Bengali.

"We would think that everything had to be exported and did not look at our domestic market. But a country of 17 crore people has a lot to do to digitize itself," Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said this on Saturday.

The minister made the remarks at the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Bacco and Brac Bank in Dhaka.

The agreement will allow Bacco members to conditionally get a collateral-free loan from Brac Bank for different terms.

The Brac initiative has bridged the banks' investment gap in call centers, the minister said.

Jabbar also said, "Bangladesh has been an import-dependent country for digital devices for so long."

"Now 11 mobile factories in the country can meet 60% of the local demand for mobile phone sets. 5G sets are being produced in Bangladesh, too. We are exporting IoT devices as well."
