Capital up, indexes decline

The stock markets closed with a downward trend in the outgoing week (November 8-12) although the scenario was opposite in the previous week. All stock market indices declined during the week. Shares and unit prices of most of the companies participated in the transaction also decreased.

Amount of transaction at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) decreased while the same increased at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week. At the same time, investors returned about Tk 900 crore during the week.

It is learnt that during the week, capitalization increased by 882 crore 78 lakh 33 thousand taka has gained in both the stock exchanges. Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week at the DSE, the market capitalization was 3 lakh 99 thousand 41 crore 22 lakh 77 thousand taka. At the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalization stood at 3 lakh 98 thousand 475 crore 38 lakh 90 thousand taka. In other words, the market capitalization at the DSE went up by 434 crore 16 lakh 13 thousand taka or 0.10 percent.

Before the start of trading on the first working day of the week at the CSE, the market capitalization was 3 lakh 29 thousand 983 crore 6 lakh 40 thousand taka. At the end of the last working day of the week, the market capitalization stood at 3 lakh 30 thousand 431 crore 68 lakh 60 thousand taka. In other words, the market capitalization at the CSE went down by 448 crore 62 lakh 20 taka or 0.13 percent in the outgoing week.

It is learnt that 4,556 crore 44 lakh 19 thousand 447 taka have been traded at the DSE in 5 working days of the outgoing week which is 333 crore 98 lakh 87 thousand 198 taka or 7.91 percent more than the previous week. In the previous week, the transaction was 4 thousand 222 crore 45 lakh 32 thousand 249 taka.

DSE's main index, the DSEX, reduced by 37.09 points or 0.75 percent to 4,905.04 points during the week. Among other indices, the Shariah Index decreased by 3.03 points or 0.27 percent and the DSE-30 Index lessened by 14.05 points or 0.81 percent to 1,117.44 points and 1,711.60 points respectively.

In the outgoing week, a total of 361 companies participated in share and unit transactions at the DSE. Among the companies, share prices of 103 companies increased and 188 companies decreased and that of 70 companies remained unchanged.

During the outgoing week at the CSE, the amount of money traded was 150 crore 74 lakh 77 thousand 749 taka which was 180 crore 73 lakh 28 thousand 824 taka in the previous week. In other words, turnover at the CSE during the week decreased by 29 crore 98 lakh 51 thousand 75 taka or 16.59 percent.

During the week, the overall CSE index CASPI lessened by 120.43 points or 0.84 percent to 14,067.87 points. Shares and units of 311 companies were traded at the CSE during the week. Prices of 90 companies increased and 162 decreased while that of 59 remained unchanged.
