Finally, winter vegetables bring relief

After maintaining high prices for several months in a row, relief has finally returned to the kitchen market. Prices of most vegetables have come down by almost half due to increased supply of winter vegetables followed by fall in the prices of fish and chicken, as per the information obtained from various markets in the capital on Friday.

It is learned that the vegetable market of the capital is down in the week. Most vegetables have been reduced by Tk 5 to 10 per kg. Prices of fish and chicken have come down like vegetables. Fish has decreased by 10 to 20 taka per kg in a week.

Besides, chicken has been reduced by 5 to 10 taka per kg. However, prices of rice, pulses, potatoes, spices and meat remained unchanged.

Beans are being sold at Tk 35 to Tk 40 per kg, asparagus bean at Tk 60, chillies at Tk 80 to TK 100, cucumbers at Tk 40, carrot at Tk 60 to 70, pointed gourd at Tk 50, brinjal at Tk 40, papaya at Tk 25 to 30 per kg. Pumpkin is being sold at Tk 30 per piece, and cabbage and cauliflower at Tk 30 each.

Domestic onions are being sold at Tk 75 to 80 per kg, while new local onions with plants are being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg with the prices coming down by Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg.

Prices of fish and chicken have come down. Per kg fish is being sold in the market at a reduced price of 10 to 20 taka per kg. Boilers are being sold at Tk 130 to 140 per kg, layers at Tk 230 to Tk 240 per kg and golden chicken at Tk 240 to Tk 250 per kg.

However, the price of beef and meat is unchanged. In the market, per kg meat is being sold at Tk 780 to Tk 800, beef at Tk 550 to Tk 580 and buffalo meat at Tk 560 to Tk 600.

However, the price of eggs has remained unchanged. In the market, red eggs are sold at Tk 105 to Tk 110 per dozen, domestic chicken eggs at Tk 160 to Tk 180 and duck eggs at Tk 140 to Tk 150.

Kazi Anisur Rahman, a vegetable vendor in Mohammadpur Townhall Bazar, told The Business Prost that prices of onions, vegetables and eggs have come down this week. The price of vegetables actually depends on the supply. If the supply is high, the price is low and if the supply is low, the price is high. Now the market is full of winter vegetables. So the price has come down by almost half.
