Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stocks on Tuesday witnessed downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 3.69
points or 0.07 per cent to settle at 5,049.80. Two other indices also closed lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 2.98 points to finish at 1,760.23 and the DSE Shariah Index fell 1.23 points to close at 1,158.41.

The daily trade turnover on the DSE also plunged to 7.19 billion taka, which is lower than the previous day’s turnover of 8.48 billion taka.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 356 issues traded, 135 closed lower, 128 higher and 93 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by Republic, BEPHARMA, RUPALI Insurance and IFIC.

DOMINAGE was the day’s best performer while Apollo Ispat was the worst loser.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended lower with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)-slumping 23.76 points to close at 14,472.99 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 13.75 points to close at 8,713.64.

Of the issues traded, 103 declined, 98 advanced and 58 remained unchanged on the CSE.
