After witnessing a downward trend in the last
two consecutive sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong
stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 122.08
points or 2.27 per cent to settle at 5,498.54. Two other indices also edged
higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 62.87 points to
finish at 2,086.36 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 24.84 points to close at
1,239.58.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 6,833.03
million, which was 7,898,04 million at the previous day’s of the week.
Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 350 issues traded, 240
ended higher, 18 closed lower and 92 issues remained unchanged on the DSE
trading floor.
Beximco continued to dominate the turnover, followed by Beximco Pharma,
Robi, BATBC and Lanka Bangla Finance.
Apolo Ispat was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent
while First Finance was the worst loser, losing4.84 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares Price
Index (CASPI)-gaining 399.84 points to close at 1213.30 while the Selective
Categories Index – CSCX rising 241.28 points to close at 9,606.47.
Of the issues traded, 160 advanced, 28 declined and 49 remained unchanged
on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 95.42 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a
turnover value of Taka 26.73 crore.
