Taiwan to allow entry of Chinese business travelers after one-year ban

Chinese nationals are once again allowed to apply to visit Taiwan for business reasons, more than one year after being banned from doing so due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) said Thursday.

Under the new policy, Chinese nationals will be able to apply to the Ministry of the Interior to visit Taiwan to fulfill contract obligations, effective immediately, reports Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) quoted MAC head Chiu Tai San as saying at a routine press conference.

Chinese nationals can also apply if they are employees of international companies who have been transferred to Taiwan, Chiu added.

The decision to allow the entry of Chinese business travelers was made to help spur cross-Taiwan Strait business exchanges and the MAC discussed the matter with the Central Epidemic Command Centre (CECC), Chiu said.

At present, Chinese nationals are only allowed to enter Taiwan if they have Taiwan residency or if they are a spouse or child of a Taiwanese resident. They can also enter Taiwan for humanitarian reasons, medical purposes, or if they are students.
