Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, revenue collection from the brick kilns under Jashore Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate witnessed a 300 percent growth during this July-February period of the current fiscal year (FY21), reports BSS.
The revenue board realized a total of Taka 42.44 crore as VAT from the brick kilns situated in 10 districts under the jurisdiction of this commissionerate over the first eight months of this fiscal.
The revenue collection from the brick kilns under Jashore Commissionerate during the July-February period of the last fiscal year (FY20) was only Taka 14.13 crore.
Talking to BSS, Commissioner of the Jashore Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Muhammad Zakir Hossain said that they have adopted some effective measures in the current fiscal year to realize VAT from all the brick kilns for which notable successes have been achieved in this regard.
He informed that they have collected information about each and every brick kilns from the chairmen of the concerned union parishads and councilors of the pourashavas so that the brick kiln owners could not evade tax.
Zakir noted that the concerned revenue board officials have been working with utmost honesty and integrity despite this pandemic, which has played an important role towards realizing hefty amount of revenues from the brick kilns.
