The government has targeted to create 10 lakh new jobs by the end of the year 2021.
In his budget speech, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said, more than 50 per cent of the population is young, which is not more than 20-25 per cent in the developed world. More than two million people are entering the labour market of Bangladesh every year. This means the country needs to create employment opportunities for the new entrants.
The minister said, “A large section of the youth of Bangladesh is already enjoying the benefits of such modern and technology-dependent employment. One million employment opportunities for the young people have already been created in the IT sector, and another 1 million people will be employed by 2021 to achieve the goal of digital Bangladesh.”
