Prominent author Samaresh Majumdar has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, following breathing complications, said an Anandabazar report on Saturday.

The author's Covid-19 test result came out negative, the report said.

A 3-member medical board has been formed to treat Samaresh, said the report citing hospital sources, adding that he was short of breath due to a respiratory tract infection.

However, the doctors are somewhat relieved that the Covid-19 report is negative, it said.

‎The report said citing family sources that Samaresh had been having respiratory problems since Friday.

The recovery of the veteran writer has been sought from various quarters.‎

The author fell sick earlier this year, undergoing ventilation at one point.

Samaresh Majumdar, 76, is famous for his short stories, novels, travelogues and children's fiction. He was the recipient of the Ananda Puroshkar in 1982, and the Sahitto Academy Puroshkar in 1984.
