The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has planned to provide data on the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) four times a year or every three months while it was used to give the data at the end of a normal year.

Besides, BBS will also give a statement of district and regional GDP.

Planning Minister MA Mannan confirmed the matter on Thursday in a workshop titled ‘Quarterly National Accounting (QSA)’ organized by the BBS National Accounting (GDP and Foreign Trade) Wing.

He said approval had been sought from the head of government (Prime Minister) to provide data on GDP growth after three months. We have taken the necessary steps in this regard.

If we get the growth data after three months, we would also be able to know the financial health data, the minister added.

State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam said, our neighbouring countries provide GDP data every three months.

Quarterly growth data will play an important role in understanding, knowing, adopting and taking action on the economy, he added.
