BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam has called upon all to work together and resolve conflicts among fund managers in order to increase the market capitalization of mutual funds to Tk 1.5 lakh crore.

He was speaking at a seminar on Saturday titled ‘Institutional Role in Sustainable Financing’ organized by the Association of Asset Management Companies and Mutual Funds (AAMCMF) on the occasion of World Investors Week.

He said that mutual funds are appreciated in all sustainable economies.

“At present, the market capitalization of mutual funds in Bangladesh is only Tk 15,000 crore, which should be taken to 1.5 lakh crore,” he argued.

The chairman also called upon banks to invest in mutual funds as they have excess liquidity.

Regarding the upcoming visit to London, the BSEC chairman said, “We are not going there to seek loans but to find investment partners.”

He said Bangladesh will need $860 billion to implement the SDGs by 2030.

“It is not possible to raise this money only from the money market, so the capital market has to come forward. We also need to attract more foreign investment,” he added.
