A Sydney man of Bangladeshi origin has been jailed for five years for planning a terror attack in Bangladesh.

Nowroz Rayed Amin, 30, was held at Sydney airport in 2016 when he was leaving for Bangladesh,

During the arrest, Sydney police recovered several items from his possession, including camouflage gear, tactical boots and an electronic copy of the bomb-making manual “The Anarchist Cookbook,” The Sydney Morning Herold reported on Monday.

The report also said Amin was an avid supporter of ISS during 2015 and in 2016, he contacted two Bangladeshi and told them that he will visit Bangladesh soon to learn cooking from them.

He was arrested at Sydney airport on February 7, 2016, wearing a gear suit. A USB stick, three pairs of camouflage trousers, a pair of mixed martial arts gloves, and Australian and Bangladesh currency were recovered from his luggage in a search the report added.

The USBs contained terrorist-related material including 10 issues of the Islamic State online magazine, an online publication showing a battle strategy of driving into a military base and detonating a vehicle, and the 241-page bomb-making manual The Anarchist Cookbook and a video of executions and suicide bombing.

After two years in 2018, he was arrested at his home at Ingleburn in Sydney. He was found to be guilty this year doing an act of planning a terrorist attack in Bangladesh and for intentionally attempting to exports stuffs related to advocating terrorist acts.

NSW Supreme Court Justice Peter Garling said on Monday, Amin was trying to locate someone who can teach him to use explosives and insisted that the explosives were only to use in Bangladesh, not in Australia.

Prosecutor claimed Amin was planning a terrorist attack in Australia, Syria and Bangladesh. However, Amin denied the allegation.

Justice Garling accepted all the evidence and said during that time Amin was quite young and could not decide right or wrong but now he has changed. He has given up ISS extremists ideology since his arrest.

Amin has been sentenced for five years, four years without parole. He will be eligible for parole in 2022.
