Algeria keen to boost trade with Bangladesh: Envoy

Algerian chamber of commerce and industry expressed interest in signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) as the African country is keen to boost trade with Bangladesh, said Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, Rabah Larbi on Wednesday. 

In a courtesy call on FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin in the afternoon, Rabah Larbi expressed interest in signing a MoU between the two countries, said a press release.

Responding positively to the Ambassador’s proposal, FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin said that trade associations of more than 50 countries of the world have signed about 150 MoUs with FBCCI.

An agreement with the Algerian Trade Organisation would increase trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, he said.

The FBCCI president promised to send the draft agreement to the Algerian embassy in Dhaka soon.

Presently, Algeria imports jute and jute products, oven and knitwear, home textiles and footwear from Bangladesh.

Apart from that, the African country also imports huge quantity of consumer goods, cereals, dairy products, plastics, medicines every year from world market.

Algeria also has a huge potential market for manmade filaments, glass and ceramics, leather goods, and electronics.

Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, senior vice president, Amin Helaly, vice president and Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque, secretary general of FBCCI were also present there, among others.
