The government has undertaken a mega project worth Tk 85 billion to industrialise both sides of the Teesta River, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Sunday.
The project has already been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council, he added.
The minister disclosed the information while addressing a scholarship distribution ceremony of the offspring of late members of Rangpur Division Journalists’ Association, Dhaka (RDJA) at the ERF auditorium in the capital.
He said the economy of Rangpur division has been moving forward with various initiatives while work continues to turn Saidpur Airport into an international standard.
The minister said the government is working to provide gas connection in Rangpur.
Besides, an agriculture university is going to be established soon in Kurigram, he added.
