When BJP MLA for Sadar constituency Suchi Choudhary slammed a coconut to the ground during the inaugural event, a segment of the proposed 7.5-kilometer road built by the irrigation department in Kheda Azizpura village in Bijnore, UP, India developed cracks.
Upset, the MLA and her supporters staged a dharna until a team arrived on the scene to gather samples of the road's construction materials, reports Hindustan Times.
The road was given a budget of INR 1.16 crore, and a 700-meter section of it was built by the irrigation department.
“When I got there and tried to break a coconut, the coconut did not break. Bits of the road came off,” Choudhary told media.
An enraged Choudhary filed a complaint with district magistrate Umesh Mishra, who appointed a committee to investigate Choudhary's allegations against irrigation department officials.
The executive engineer of the irrigation department had given a request letter to form a committee for an investigation into the matter, said Mishra over phone. “I have formed a committee for probe into the case.”
MLA Choudhary expressed concerns about the road's quality in a video that went viral on social media, accusing the irrigation department's executive engineer and junior engineer of colluding with the road's contractor.
“While I was questioning the contractor for substandard construction, the executive engineer and junior Engineer were trying to pacify me more than the contractor,” she said demanding stern action against those responsible for “substandard construction”.
