A 31-year-old national of Bangladesh has been found dead in the Dragonja valley in the border area between Slovenia and Croatia on Monday.
Initial information indicated hypothermia as the cause of death, reported Slovak news agency STA citing the Koper Police Department.
No more details were available right away.
The Bangladeshi man’s remains were found in an area that’s frequented by illegal migrants trying to reach Western Europe.
Most illegal migrants come from Pakistan, Algeria, Afghanistan, Morocco and Bangladesh. Only a fraction seek asylum in Slovenia, with most continuing on to neighbouring Italy and Austria, reported Reuters.
Croatia, like Slovenia, is also a member of the EU but is not in Europe's passport-free Schengen zone. This means migrants who reach Slovenia can then travel much more easily to richer EU member states, with Germany the most popular destination.
