Indian police have arrested a man for beheading his 19-year-old pregnant sister with his mother’s help for getting married to a man without the consent of her family in India’s Aurangabad area.
The victim was attacked by her mother and brother with a sharp weapon when she was making tea for them at her in-law’s house.
Later they were surrendered to the police.
The arrestees allegedly dragged the head of the victim after killing her and displayed it before the woman’s neighbours, according to Indian news media.
The brother was sent to a remand home for juveniles after his lawyer said he was less than 18 years old. However, a police official said they would contest this claim in court as they had found a certificate that showed him to be an adult. Their mother was sent to police custody.
Campaigners say hundreds of people are killed each year in India for falling in love or marrying against their families wishes.
