As the cases of Omicron variant cases in India hit 32, Mumbai Police on Friday imposed prohibitory orders in the city for 48 hours, banning large gatherings over the weekend.

The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) came after three new cases were found in Maharashtra, Indian television NDTV reported citing PTI.

The prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) within the Mumbai Commissionerate restricts rallies and protest marches involving people and vehicles over the next two days, said a police official to NDTV.

Maharashtra reported 695 new Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths in the past 24 hours. With the new infections, Maharashtra’s caseload rose to 66,42,372 including 6,534 active cases.
