Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka seized gold plates and bars weighing more than 3kg, worth Tk 1.84 crore, on Friday.
The gold bars and plates were recovered from a passenger arriving from Italy.
Italian citizen Amranul, who originally hails from Raypura upazila of Narshinghdi district, landed at the airport at 2:27am by flight TK 722, an official of Dhaka Customs House said.
As he was passing through the green channel after completing the immigration formalities, his baggage underwent security scanning through the scanning machine, said Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Customs House (preventive team) Md Sanoarul Kabir.
7 plates and 10 bars of Gold were detected inside Amranul's luggage during the scanning. A case was filed against him, the official added.
