The primary accused of the Cox's Bazar Tourist rape case has confessed that the tourist was picked up and raped when she and her family refused to shell out Tk 50 thousand as extortion money.
Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, the prime accused of the case, was arrested on Sunday from Madaripur, and has confessed about the extortion in the initial interrogation, Director of RAB Legal and Media Wing Commander Khandaker Al Moin said while talking to the media at a press conference in Dhaka on Monday.
Earlier on December 23, a tourist was reportedly picked up from Laboni Beach and gang-raped by three men after travelling from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar with her husband and their eight-month-old child.
The tourist's husband filed a case against seven people on Thursday. Names of four accused and three unidentified men have been mentioned in the case.
The four accused are Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, Abdul Jobbar Joy, Babu, and Riaz Uddin Chhoton.
