US increases passport fees by $20

The cost of a US passport book rose $20 for all customers from Monday, the United States Department of State announced in a tweet.

“The increased fee is necessary to ensure we continue to produce one of the most secure travel and identity documents in the world,” the tweet said on December 21.

A first-time or replacement adult passport will cost $165, while a renewal will cost $130. The expedited fee will remain $60, according to the State Department website.

The fees mentioned were for those applying for or renewing their passport in the United States and renewing by mail from Canada.
