A newborn boy was found abandoned in the bin in an Air Mauritius plane's toilet on Saturday.

Airport staff found the baby when they were conducting a routine customs check in the plane that arrived from Madagascar and landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius, BBC reported.

After being found, the newborn was rushed to a public hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old woman from Madagascar was arrested on suspicion of giving birth and abandoning the child.

The woman initially denied the allegations, according to BBC. But a medical examination confirmed that she had just given birth.

The woman was also taken to a hospital and put under police surveillance. She will be questioned after her release.
